It’s been a week full of WEBINARS
Happy week to all my small business friends and followers in the struggle. I so appreciate you all. Here are some relevant business news headlines, and reviews of business webinars that are relevant to those of us running and starting a business.
FaceBook states that it will give us the option to opt out of those annoying political ads from its platform
Kudos to FaceBook for finally getting it RIGHT! This past Tuesday, the social network said it will allow people in the United States to OPT OUT of seeing social issue, electoral or political ads from candidates or political action committees in their Facebook or Instagram Feeds. This option will start with a small group of users, before rolling out in the coming weeks to the rest of the United Staes and later to several other countries. I am so glad that this option is now available. I have relatives that LIVE on FaceBook, and I am almost certain that they have been fed false information on just about every subject. Hopefully they will have the common sense God gave them to turn off the untruths and conspiracy theories that commonly circulate without validity.https://www.nytimes.com/2020/06/16/technology/opt-out-political-ads-facebook.html?searchResultPosition=1
Are You Tired of those Free Webinars YET?
I give this Five Stars!
If you like learning, like I like learning, I bet you have signed up for a couple of small-business webinars. There are some that are excellent, and others that I believe are just trying to take up time and space. One such webinar that is in that Excellent category is VERIZON’S Live Small Business Webinar Series hosted on BrightTALK. The first webinar that I viewed was the Tech adoption for small business through COVID-19 and beyond that was hosted by Shelly Palmer. I always enjoy Mr. Palmer’s animated personality. He is very tech-savvy knowledgeable. I am not a techie, but Mr. Palmer breaks down tech information in the very basic sense of the word. For example – on the webinar, Mr. Palmer breaks down the least expensive equipment to host your own live webinars – from the hardware to the software. This man knows his stuff – check out the replay – it is definitely worth it! I give it 4 stars! https://www.verizon.com/business/resources/webinars
Another Great Webinar – Upwork Expert Webinar: Leveling Your Freelancing Brand
I give it 5 Stars!
Ever use Upwork? Upwork is the freelance site for any freelance gig imaginable. There are freelance gigs in every industry. You can post a gig – (ever need a virtual assistant), or you can bid on proposals as a Freelancer in your field. I thought I would pursue that aspect of Upwork. Ever wonder why you never get a opportunity to bid on a job proposal? Turns out that there is a science to creating the perfect Upwork profile. Ambassador Will Simpson hosted this webinar with special guest speaker, Mr. Mike Volkin who gave insights on how to increase your brand awareness on Upwork. Mr. Mike Volkin freelanced for over 10 years, and is the lead instructor at Freelancer Masterclass. Mr. Volkin’s tips included:
1- How to make a profile stand out to Upwork prospects
2- How to write a proposal that converts prospects to clients
3- How to charge higher rates (and have your clients love you for it)
4- Tips on creating your own video as well as the best picture to choose for your profile
Mike even gave away some Upwork secrets (like how to find the first name of the client for the proposal that you plan to place a bid)
And Mike even shared more secrets and information. As of this post, the webinar had not been posted, but check out Upwork’s website and Twitter feed in the meantime:
3-Part Webinar Series Reckoning with Uncertainty
Review of Part 1 of this 3-Part Webinar Series: I give it 4 stars!
This was another “quality” virtual Zoom webinar that was worth the time. This Webinar is available to members of the National Black MBA Association® and gave great advice to start-ups and entrepreneurs, as well as included visual graphics from the presenter, Mr. Andre Fowlkes, President of Start Co. and Managing Partner of Wolf River Angles. The webinar is a part of the National Black MBA Association entrepreneur series, and was moderated by Ms. Paula Fontana. Mr. Fowlkes spoke about the different stages of a business – not from a marketing book definition, but how businesses are in a start, stuck, or survival mode phase. Mr. Fowlkes also gave examples of each, and what to do to move the business into the next growth phase. Q&A was given by Ms. Fontana, and I cannot wait until Part II in this series is available. Check out Mr. Fowlkes website for the Summer 2020 Business Accelerator Program at http://neverstop.co/accelerators/. Also available for download, NBMBAA,Inc. virtual summit:
If You Think Education Is Expensive, Wait Until You See How Much Ignorance Costs in the 21st Century44th President of the United States of America, Barack Obama
I stand firmly against any type of discrimination and police brutality of marginalized groups of people. Life is a gift, All lives matter. Get into some “GOOD TROUBLE” ( A quote from John Lewis). Please VOTE – protesting is good, marching is great, but going to the polls will give us better leadership for this country.
